AARF Pet Central, 6570 James B Rivers Dr, Stone Mountain, Georgia 30083,
Atlanta Animal Rescue Friends is hosting a community pet day on November 23 from 12:00 - 1:00 at our facility in Stone Mountain Village. We also run a pet food pantry, which provides monthly pick-up options for Stone Mountain residents that qualify based on income. More information is available on the AARF website at aarfatlanta.org

GERL helps the GA Dept of Agriculture in funds.
About GERL--While the Georgia Dept. of Agriculture, Equine Division is charged with enforcement of laws which protect equine in Georgia, there are no state funds allocated for the care of animals which are seized and impounded by GDA Inspectors due to neglect. That program is forced to rely heavily on public donations. To date, GERL has provided over $360,000 to support the GDA Equine Division. http://www.gerlltd.org/aboutus.html
We are now working with local law enforcement and animal control agencies to insure more widespread enforcement of equine protection laws. This effort involves the training of officers regarding proper horse handling and providing temporary equine holding facilities where needed. Questions? GA License Plate Promotes Conservation of Wildlife
Funds from the sale of both nongame wildlife license plates in Georgia benefit the Wildlife Conservation Fund. This fund is managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division exclusively for conservation, education and recreation projects focusing on Georgia's endangered and nongame wildlife and plants. The funds have also been used to purchase and preserve habitat.
There are currently no state funds provided for nongame wildlife conservation, education and recreation programs and these important projects are funded solely through federal grants, direct donations and fundraising initiatives like the wildlife license plate.
The tags are one of the primary sources of funding for nongame wildlife conservation in Georgia. Georgia continues to lose natural habitat for quail, songbirds and other wildlife in part because of the state's fast-growing human population rate and changing land management practices. See tags & learn more at http://www.georgiawildlife.org/node/2313

Since AAHS has limited staffing, it can be, at times, difficult for us to handle large groups of volunteers under our direct supervision. Not to say that we do not desperately need your help. Your help can most effectively be used if your group is able to be self-directed. Here are a few examples of fundraisers that you can do that would be a big help, along with some other things we are currently in need of:.http://www.athenshumanesociety.org/
We have established a Pet Soup Kitchen called The Food Bowl where pets in need can receive free food so their owners do not have to make the hard choice of surrendering them. We are currently collecting bags of dog and cat food for distribution.
If you would like to help keep animals with their families please consider donating a bag of food today. Bags of food can be dropped off at our shelter, adoption center, or spay/neuter clinic. Please call if you have questions 706-705-AAHS (2247).

At Atlanta Humane Society, we love all of our animals but the long-term residents have an extra special place in our hearts. These are the dogs and cats that have stayed the longest at our facilities, many times more than six months. It can be very stressful to not have a permanent home and as a result, we’ve listed them here in hopes of finding these long-term residents an environment they can call all their own.
The AHS is the oldest private charitable organization in Atlanta, founded in 1873 following a visit to the city by Robert E. Lee. The animal charity was originally chartered to protect women, children, and animals and remained a child protection and animal welfare society for 79 years.
